Akira (Courtesy Post) | Female | Rough Collie X |
Rescue Story:
I was originally adopted out from another rescue organization to a family who loved me very much. Unfortunately they had some very significant life changes which means they can no longer care for me and have asked Zoe's to help me find a loving retirement home.
As a courtesy post Zoe's has not met "Akira". We facilitate the adoption behind the scenes to ensure a safe rehoming. We ensure the animal is up to date on vet care, spayed/neutered, and is assessed by one of our partner trainers - Zoe's does not personally know the animal. It is the adopters' responsibility to do their due diligence - ask for vet records, behavioural assessment, microchip information, and/or a trial period.
Date of Birth: June 16, 2017 (est)
Energy Level: High - I might be a senior but I still have plenty of energy!
Size (adult): Medium (approx 45lbs)
Adoption Fee: $250 a special price for a special senior
Good with Dogs? Maybe
I am reactive when meeting dogs on leash but with slow introductions I do well off-leash and have been to dog parks and daycare.
Good with Cats? Yes
I am curious but am good with dog savvy cats.
Good with Kids? Yes
I am gentle with kids but older kids who can respect my boundaries would be best.
Critter Twitter:
Hello, my name is Akira, and I'm a 9-year-old lady who is ready to find my perfect retirement home. Don't let my age fool you—I still have plenty of energy for adventures, playtime, and fun! I can be a little cautious when meeting new people, but once you've earned my trust, you'll discover I'm sweet, loving, playful, and just a tiny bit sassy. My favourite place in the world is snuggled up beside my people for a cozy cuddle session. I'm a very smart girl who knows lots of commands and loves keeping my brain busy with doggy puzzles. I also have excellent taste in snacks and happily crunch away on fruits and veggies. You'll often find me proudly carrying around my favourite toys or bouncing through the snow like a puppy. I enjoy trips to the off-leash park where I can stretch my legs and enjoy the great outdoors. While I still love being active, I'm hoping to find a calm, quiet home where I can relax and enjoy my golden years with people who understand me. If you're looking for a loyal best friend who will reward your patience with endless love, I might just be your perfect match.
About my Behaviour:
I have separation anxiety so I will need a home where I'm not left alone for long hours as I panic. I have broken out of my crate when left alone and been destructive and had accidents inside. I am an anxious girl who is looked for a calm, quiet and patient home where I will feel safe and who will provide mental and physical stimulation to keep me fulfilled. I can take some time to warm up to new people (especially men) but I promise I'm worth it and full of love when I'm comfortable. I get scared if I am forced to do something I'm uncomfortable with and do have a bite history because of that, but I give clear warnings so paying attention to my body language is important. I can be reactive on leash and will sometimes lunge at other dogs or joggers.
*Akira has had an assessment by a trainer which will be provided to potential adopters.*
How’s my Health?
I am spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. I do have some anxiety and take medication before stressful events like the vet. I will likely need my teeth cleaned in the future and do have some stiffness in my back legs which may be arthritis. I may also have some allergies but haven't been tested. For a senior pup I am still quite healthy and active.
