Terms of Use
Last updated: October 22, 2026
Welcome to the Zoe’s Animal Rescue website (the “Site”). The Site is operated by Zoe’s Animal Rescue Society (“Zoe’s Animal Rescue,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). We are a volunteer-run registered Canadian charity (charitable registration number 830544938RR0001) based in Edmonton, Alberta.
By using the Site, you agree to these Terms of Use. That includes browsing adoptable animals, sending us an adoption, foster or volunteer application, making a donation, or buying a Gift Donation. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
Some of our programs have their own terms. Adoptions are also governed by our Adoption Policies & Process and the adoption contract you sign. Fostering is governed by the foster agreement. If these Terms of Use conflict with a program’s own terms, the program terms will apply.
You must be at least 18 years old to submit an application, make a donation or purchase, or enter into any agreement with Zoe’s Animal Rescue through the Site. By doing any of these, you confirm that you are at least 18 and have the authority to accept these terms.
Electronic Communications
When you use the Site, submit a form, or email us, you are communicating with us electronically. You agree to receive communications from us electronically. These include replies to your questions, application updates, donation confirmations and tax receipts. You agree that agreements, notices and other communications we send electronically meet any legal requirement that they be in writing. You can keep copies of these communications for your records.
Applications and Information You Provide
To adopt, foster or volunteer, you will need to complete an application on the Site and give us information about yourself and your household. When you submit an application or any other form, you agree that: (a) the information you provide is truthful, accurate and complete; (b) you will let us know if that information changes while your application is active; and (c) you have permission from any references you list to share their contact information with us.
Submitting an application does not guarantee approval or placement. Our volunteers review every application with the animal’s best interests first. We may decline or withdraw any application at our discretion, and we may not be able to respond to every applicant. Adoption fees are non-refundable, as set out in our Adoption Policies & Process.
Donations and Gift Donations
Donations made through the Site, or through the third-party platforms we link to, support the care of animals in our program. Donations are voluntary and generally non-refundable. If you believe a donation was made in error, contact us at info@zoesanimalrescue.org and we will review your request.
Official donation receipts for income tax purposes are issued according to Canada Revenue Agency requirements and our receipting policy. When you buy a Gift Donation, you are the donor, so any tax receipt is issued to you and not to the person named on the card. After payment, Gift Donations are delivered as a link to a printable card. Nothing is shipped.
Monthly donors can change or cancel their monthly gift at any time by contacting us, or through the platform they used to set it up.
Third-Party Sites and Platforms
Some donations, payments, raffles and sponsorships are handled by third parties such as CanadaHelps, ATB Cares, PayPal and Rafflebox. When you use those services, their terms and privacy policies apply in addition to ours. We are not responsible for their content or how they operate. The same applies to any other external sites we link to, including partner sites and social media.
Permitted Use of the Site
As long as you follow these Terms of Use, Zoe’s Animal Rescue gives you a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to access and use the Site for personal, non-commercial purposes. We may end this licence at any time.
We want our animals to find homes. You are welcome to share links to our adoptable animal profiles by email or on social media, as long as you do not change them or present them as your own.
Unless we give you written permission, you agree not to: (a) copy, reproduce, republish, sell or otherwise use the Site or its content for commercial purposes, including animal photos, descriptions and stories; (b) use our name, logo or content in a way that suggests a partnership or endorsement, or to raise funds on our behalf; (c) collect or scrape animal listings, applicant information or other content from the Site by automated means; (d) frame or mirror any part of the Site; (e) modify or reverse engineer the Site, or try to gain unauthorized access to the Site, its systems or other people’s information; or (f) use the Site for any unlawful purpose, or to submit false, misleading or harmful content.
We may change, suspend or discontinue all or part of the Site at any time, with or without notice. We will not be liable to you or anyone else for doing so.
Animal Information and General Content
Our volunteers and foster homes write animal profiles in good faith, based on what they know at the time. This includes details such as breed, age, health and temperament. Profiles are not a guarantee of an animal’s history, health or behaviour. The training, veterinary and care resources on the Site are general information. They are not a substitute for advice from a veterinarian or other qualified professional.
Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability
The Site is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the extent permitted by law, Zoe’s Animal Rescue makes no warranties about the Site, including that it will always be available, error free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. To the extent permitted by law, Zoe’s Animal Rescue and its directors, volunteers and foster homes are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the Site.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use and protect the personal information you give us, including information in applications.
Governing Law
These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply in Alberta. You agree that any dispute about these terms or the Site will be resolved in the courts of Alberta.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. Changes take effect when they are posted on this page. If you keep using the Site after that, you accept the updated terms.
