Critter Twitter:
Hey! I'm Ottoman Shortstacks (Otto for short) and I am a dapper older gentleman looking for a family to love me during my golden years. Although we can’t guarantee my breed, I am likely crossed with a basset hound so you may notice I have stubby legs. I am very sweet and loving. My favorite past time? Snuggling with my people. Second favorite? SQUEEK TOYS. If it squeaks, I’m very happy. I have big floppy ears and am told that I am an excellent listener. When people ask me to do something or want to redirect me, I’m quick to listen and be the best boy. I currently live with dogs and cats and am very social. I will absolutely play and have a good time but I’m also totally fine just hanging with my people. Sometimes I try to play with my kitty roommates and so if you have cats it would be best that they are confident with dogs. Homebody? No problem! Adventurer? I’m down to see the world. Just don’t try to take me for runs, I will absolutely plant all 4 paws and judge you for choosing running as a past-time. I love treats and pets and going for sniff walks. Although I am getting older I still have some spitfire in me and enjoy a good fetch session and strolling the neighbourhood reading all the pee-mail.
About my Behaviour:
I walk well on leash and am very well behaved. I am fully house trained and am very smart. I learn quickly and it’s very easy to redirect my attention. I know some basic commands but can be a bit stubborn sometimes so you may need to ask me twice. My recall is pretty strong too. I don’t really like being locked in a crate, it’s stressful to me but I can be left alone to roam and I do great. Although I don’t have true separation anxiety, I am used to having my people around so I sometimes will get a bit stressed when left alone for long periods and may coo/howl when my people leave me. But I do settle after a little bit and then I am fine. At night I enjoy sleeping in the bed or am happy to snooze on my dog bed, but I like being near my people to make sure they are ok. For people with kids: I am totally fine with kids but sometimes when I play I can be a bit mouthy and excited so I may do best with older kids. To ensure we get off on the right paw, my adopters will be required to sign up for force-free training. You can find a list of great trainers at www.albertaforcefreealliance.com.
How’s my Health?
I am neutered, vaccinated and have great teeth and ears for my age! As I am an older boy I do have some fatty lumps and a bit of arthritis but they are completely normal and are not of concern.
