What am I like?

Let me tell you!

Hi, I’m Gertrude, a sweet girl who has finished raising my puppies, and now it’s finally my turn to find a family of my own! I’m a shy girl, so I’ll need a patient family who understands that feeling safe and comfortable in a new home will take time. I might not be ready to show you my whole personality right away, but please give me a chance to blossom at my own pace. Once I trust you, I’ll become your little shadow, happily following you around and enjoying the comfort of having my favourite people nearby. Having another friendly dog in my forever home is a must because their companionship helps me feel more confident and shows me that the world isn’t such a scary place. I’ll need gentle encouragement, a predictable routine, and lots of love as I settle into my new life. Give me a cardboard box to shred, and I’ll be one happy girl with a project to keep me busy. If you have a kind heart, a friendly dog, and the patience to let a shy girl find her feet, I promise I’ll make it worth the wait when I finally choose you as my person.

How do I act?

I am house trained and am good in my crate, it’s my safe place. I am still learning the ropes of living in a home so I do sometimes chew on things I shouldn’t if I’m left unattended. I am a very timid pup who will need a patient home who will take things slow and continue building my confidence. I do seem to warm up to females faster than males. The other dogs in my foster home help with my confidence so I will require another dog in the home. I’m a smart, young girl so ensuring I get proper mental and physical stimulation will be important. To ensure we get off on the right paw, my adopters will be required to sign up for force-free training. You can find a list of great trainers at www.albertaforcefreealliance.com.

My Health is Very Important!

I recently had surgery on my back knee for a subluxating patella and am expected to make a full recovery. I am spayed, up to date on my vaccinations, dewormed and microchipped.

Ready to Adopt Me?

Our adoption policies/process can be found here. Please review it prior to filling out an adoption application, as it can help you determine whether our rescue is the right fit for your needs. Puppies must attend force-free puppy classes. Make sure you can afford the extra expense, as it is a requirement to buy your classes prior to pick up. (They do not give refunds).
