Foster of the Week: Lovey

Lovey Howell

Hi, do you mind if I sit next to you?

I’ll be no bother, I’d just like to sit and observe the world. You can pet me if you like, I’d love that. Or we can just sit. I’d like that too.

I’m Lovey.

People say my name suits me perfectly because I’m sweet, quiet and calm. And because I really love to be pet. I could sit next to a human for hours as long as the pets keep coming. (I’ll nudge you if you stop, so just keeping petting…)

I am working on being an indoor dog. It’s kind of a tough adjustment, let me say. I was terrified when I first got to my foster home. It was new and strange, there were these things called stairs, so many smells….. I didn’t know if this new place would be good or scary. I’m still reserved and unsure at times, but this place is pretty good. It’s warm and comfortable and there is always food. My foster mom is so patient with me, I’ve grown to love and trust her a lot. She let me take my time getting into the house (and I took a really long time), she worked with me on those stair things, she taught me how to walk on a leash and she’s given me time to relax and open up – a work still in progress. She loves me exactly how I am and I really love that.

I have a crate in my foster home, I like it a lot. If I am feeling scared or nervous, I just go into my crate. It makes me feel safe. Sometimes I’ll hang out in my crate with a bone just because. I do enjoy a good bone! I like to run and sometimes I feel inclined to play with the dogs in my foster home, but I do like to take my time warming up to the ideas. I think I would like a dog sibling in my forever home; I’d like a friend to help my confidence grow.

That’s what I’ve been working on lately: my confidence. A patient and experienced forever home is a must for me so that I can continue to grow into a balanced lady. I will repay your patience with love and loyalty times ten.

I’ve really enjoyed sitting next to you. Maybe we should make this a forever thing?

Foster of the Week: Princess Peach

Hi again! Princess Peach here!

It’s been a few months since we last chatted, I have so much to tell you.

I abdicated my throne at Rabbit Hill Pet Value, it wasn’t really my style. I took over a more homey castle for a short time, however I found myself to be quite put off by feline subjects. So off I went in search of more suitable lands.

And now here I am, in the absolute best kingdom yet!

There are no other animal subjects here, just two-legged loyals and I love them so.

We have the liveliest conversations and they understand that my affection is on my terms. Make no mistake, I am a very affectionate princess. I adore head rubs and will somersault into your hand for them. I also quite enjoy lying beside you while you love and pet me. When I have had enough, I will simply wander away for some me time. My humans also understand that as sole monarch, everything in this kingdom is mine. As such, I rub myself on everything – furniture and humans alike. I will also flop onto my back so you can admire my beautiful tummy, it’s a sign of love. But hands off! It’s just for show.

I consider myself the People’s Princess. A feline Princess Diana, if you will. While I do have some regal requests, ones that I will not bend, I am sweet and loving and FUN! This princess is not too proper to play! I love wand toys. My foster mom says I carry the wand away with glorious triumph when I catch it. And I have a catnip toy that is just marvelous for tousling.

I am so happy to have finally settled in a suitable home. I’ve shed my sassy shell and have become the princess and lady I am meant to be.

Let’s do lunch! Visit my bio and apply to adopt me!

Foster of the Week: Lucy Lu

HIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!! I’M LUCY!!!

It is soooooo good to meet you! Do you want go for a run? Play? Wrestle? Snuggle? Chew on some toys? Fetch? Take a nap?

What should we doooooooo????????

Everything?!?!?!

You know, I wasn’t always this happy. I used to be so shy and nervous, scared of everything. I had a home, things were good, but then one day I found myself in a crate in this strange woman’s house. She was very nice, if not a little goofy, and I was sure she meant no harm, but everything was strange and scary. She kept her distance, but kept offering food until my fear softened, which was actually my stomach growling, and I finally decided to venture out of my crate.

Guess what happened then!?!?!?

She had MORE FOOD!! And OTHER DOGS who I could play with. And leashes for WALKS!!!!

Guys, it was SO AWESOME!!!!

I was still scared, but the goofy lady of love was very patient and, well, loving. Then I got moved again. And I was scared again. Less scared than before, but still nervous. Again the people were so patient and kind and now? I HAVE THE BEST LIFE EVER!!

I have a Boston Terrier BFF who is AWESOME! We play and wrestle all the time. (Sometimes I accidentally fall off the bed when we are wrestling… Oops!) We are superstar nappers too. Uh huh. And I get to go to dog daycare. Do you know how many friends I have there? OVER FORTY! There are toys and pools and so much space to run. There are even comfy beds and tons of snuggle buds to choose from. It’s the best! Then I get to go home with my people and wiggle in nice and tight for more snuggles. There’s always room for Lucy!

It really doesn’t get any better. I am always happy; my tail is always wagging, bum always shaking. I love this new life with my whole heart.

I guess there is one way my life could be better: A forever home.

People who will love me as much as I can love them: madly and deeply. People who will understand that I can be shy and timid in new situations, but if you can be patient with me, I can learn to trust you. And people with another dog, because I can’t imagine life without canine siblings.

Read my bio, apply to adopt me! Let’s meet!

Foster of the Week: Crossy

crossy2

Finally! You’re here! Let’s go sit and cuddle, you can rub my head while I tell you all about me.

My name is Crossy. I’m six years old and sweet as can be.

I came to Zoe’s as an SNR. Zoe’s has a fabulous Spay/Neuter Return program and I came in to be spayed. However, during my examination, it was discovered that I have an autoimmune disease: eosinophilic granuloma complex. That’s what was causing all the sores on my body. (I looked pretty rough when I came in.) Having been properly diagnosed, the lovely Zoe’s people could treat my sores and try to make sure I don’t get them again. I am feeling SO much better!

Eosinophilic granuloma complex is easy to treat. All it takes is a simple steroid shot. My foster mom sneaks it when I’m devouring some delicious wet food and I don’t even notice.

I LOVE people. Love, love, LOVE them!! I am ecstatic when my foster mom comes home. I run to greet her at the door and sweetly demand snuggles. There’s nothing I love more than sitting on her lap, snuggling and head-butting her. She let me sleep on her bed with her and I didn’t even know what to do with myself. A WHOLE night snuggled next to my human!?!? How could life possibly get any better!!??

My foster mom says I make her feel like the most important person in the world. I love her so much.

I also love when people come to visit. I always say “a stranger is a just lap you haven’t yet had the chance to warm.” I like other cats too, but not all of them are as friendly and outgoing as I am. I forget that sometimes, so I can be a little too much for them. I just need reminders and proper introductions so I don’t overwhelm my feline friends.

I can get very carried away with my love and affection, which sometimes leads to mouthing and biting. I don’t mean to hurt and my foster mom is working on this with me, but I shouldn’t be around young children until I get a handle on this. I really don’t want to hurt anyone.

So. Now that your lap is warm and you know all about me, whaddya say we go on over to my bio so you can apply to adopt me?

Foster of the Week: Colby Cheese

13603796_722697244539701_3775812910887168277_o

Hi, I’m Cheese! Colby Cheese.

Where’s your car? You DO have a car, right? Good. Let’s go for a ride!

Ahhhh…. I love the wind in ears! This is the life, I tell ya!!

I’m originally from Niagara Falls, what a fun little town! And now I’m here in Alberta. I’ve been all over this province, but I think it’s time I settle down.

I’ve settled into a great routine in my foster home.

My day starts bright and early when my foster dad wakes up. He comes to get my foster sister and me, then we go upstairs for a 45 minute snooze on the bed with my foster mom. I wait for my foster dad to tell me it’s ok to jump up on the bed, then I give my foster mom a quick kiss and settle in for a nap. She never sleeps long enough, but getting up with her means a walk and FOOOOOOD.

I start every day with a short walk. I keep hoping we’ll go for a car ride instead, but nope. Always a walk. My hound nose loves to sniff EVERYTHING. EVERY. THING. There are SO many smells out there! My foster mom doesn’t mind, but sometimes my nose gets carried away and she has to remind me that we are walking, not sniffing. I am very considerate of my foster mom and always do my business beside a garbage can. It’s the gentlemanly thing to do.

After my walk, it’s time for breakfast!!! My foster mom likes me to sit nicely until she serves breakfast. It’s SO hard when I’m SO hungry, but I try with all my might. After I gobble up my breakfast, I go upstairs to see who’s still sleeping. I crawl into bed with one of the kids and sleep until they get up. The girls take me on another short walk before lunch, then I spend the afternoon hanging out, being a dude. I love laying in the grass or sprawling out on the lounge chair for an afternoon siesta. I laze until dinner time. Food is my jam!

Evenings are for my people, I love my people almost as much as I love food. We go for an evening walk, then lay on the couch until bed time. I follow whoever goes up to bed first and snuggle with them until it’s time to go to my bed for the night. Sometimes my foster parents are too lazy to argue with me about going to my bed, my puppy eyes are extremely hard to resist, so I get to sleep in their bed with them. WINNING!!

It’s a great life with my foster family, they are so good to me. But, as much as I love living here, I am ready to find a forever home. One without cats!! That’s pretty much my only request. Cats flick my ‘Hunt Mode’ switch with a quickness! I’m happy with adults and kids and I don’t mind other dogs. I would like a home where my people are home more than they are away. And where there are lots and lots of treats! And a car. My life would be so sad without car rides.

So whaddya say? Check out my bio, apply to adopt me, and make me your passenger seat pal!

Foster of the Week: Layla Maw

layla maw

Hi there, I’m Layla. Pleased to meet you.

Curl up with me in the sunbeam? It’s one of my favourite places to lay.

I came to Zoe’s a couple months ago with my babies. I was pretty nervous, my babies were only one day old when we were taken to this new place. I didn’t know what was going on. The people ended up being so, so lovely. They gave me such a nice space to take care of my babies and then they helped find loving forever homes for each one. And now here I am! Looking for a forever home of my own.

I’m a pretty easy going girl, my foster mom says I am sweetheart. I really love to be around my people. I always try to snuggle up to my foster parents at night, but sometimes the foster dog, Jamba, is already on the bed. I don’t mind dogs, but this one? He likes to torment me. Small dog syndrome probably…. I get along great with the rest of the dogs in my foster home. There’s also a litter of kittens here that I help take care of. They don’t have a mama with them, they need some love.

As lovely and loving as I am, I am still very playful! I love playing with toys and chasing them around. I love my scratching post, too. If you ask me, I am perfectly balanced. I love people and cuddles, but I am perfectly content to curl up in my favourite chair for a snooze. I am fun and playful, but not overly kittenish with super high energy. And I don’t mind dogs, cats or kids, but please know I can be a little choosey with other cats and I much prefer kids who are gentle and respect my space when I ask for it.

Also – did you know August is Kitty Extravaganza here at Zoe’s? That means my adoption fee is reduced!! What are you waiting for?? Check out my bio and apply to adopt me!

Foster of the Week: Morgan Freeman

13325464_708096835999742_7272900467902857597_n

*Bump*

Oh, pardon me…

*Bump*

Oops! Excuse me!

*Bump*

*Sniff, sniff*

Hmm….you smell human. Listen, I’ve got an itch right behind my ear. Would you mind?

Ahhhh….. That’s better, thank you.

Hi! I’m Morgan! Sit down beside me and let’s play a game. I’ll tell you three things about me and you have to guess which one is a lie.

  1. I’m 10 years old.
  2. Famous actor Morgan Freeman was named after me.
  3. I’m blind.

Can you guess which one isn’t true? I know, I know. Too easy, right? I just wanted you to sit beside me and pet me. Now that you’re here, there’s no sense in getting up. Let’s chat.

I’m looking for a forever home. I had a family but they weren’t able to properly care for me, so Zoe’s took me in. I took a little time to adjust in my foster home, being blind makes new environments a little nerve-wracking, but nothing keeps me down for long! I’m always smiling!  As long as I have a patient human by my side…

I went to Kause for Paws at Koch Ford on the weekend. It was a little much, not gonna lie…. I don’t really like big open spaces, they’re very hard for me to navigate. But once we settled inside where people registered, I was able to relax. The best part was all the people; a solid five hours of love, cuddles and scratches. That’s the good life….

Bark on the street is that senior dogs have a hard time getting adopted. I don’t understand that at all. Senior dogs are the best!!

No offence to puppies, they are pretty cute, but us older dogs are so much easier. We don’t ask for much: love, food and a comfy spot to lay our heads. At least that’s all I’m looking for. That and a home where I can be close by my people at all times. Being alone for too long makes me restless and I start to investigate things I probably shouldn’t. Like the kitchen counters…. In my defence, I don’t exactly know it’s the kitchen counters I’m surfing. It’s not like I can see that I’m in the kitchen. Wink, wink….

My age and vision impairment don’t hold me back at all. I hope it won’t hold you back from applying to adopt me!

Foster of the Week: Sunshine Malala

13220629_697552277054198_7784422630759894308_o

I am your sunshine, your only sunshine.
I’ll make you happy when skies are grey.
You’ll always know, dear, how much I love you.
I’ll never take my sunshine away……

Hey there! I’m Sunshine Malala.

I’m kind of a PSA cat. A two-fold PSA cat, actually.

Firstly, postpartum psychosis is REAL and it’s SCARY. It’s even scarier when you’re an animal and your humans don’t know why you’re being so terrifyingly violent. That’s how I came to Zoe’s. I had a litter of kittens, my hormones didn’t re-balance properly and the result was anything but friendly. I was surrendered because I was unpredictably dangerous and my family didn’t know what to do. I was so scared. I didn’t know what was going on – inside or outside my body.

The people at Zoe’s didn’t know if I could be saved, but they refused to give up on me until every possible avenue had been exhausted. I was booked for a spay, as all Zoe’s animals are, with the hope that it would help.

Which brings me to my second PSA: SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR ANIMAL FAMILY!!

Truth be told, I really didn’t need to have kittens and I didn’t need to suffer through postpartum psychosis. Neither would have happened had I been spayed as soon as possible. This all could have been prevented with a simple procedure.

Thankfully I am so much better now. I am sunshine personified. Well, feline-ified. I am happy, I am not scared or aggressive anymore. Other than my aggressive pursuit of affection and attention. I am quite vocal about my desire for affection; so if you want me to be quiet, you need to love me until I am satisfied. Also I must have chin scratches in the morning, I will head butt you square in the face until you give them to me. It’s best to just give in and love me.

My foster parents will tell you I’m a treat thief, but I disagree. The treats ARE for me and all I am trying to do is eat them. How can a cat thief something that is FOR THEM? I don’t get it. Humans are silly. They are the ones who bring the treats home though, so I let the silliness slide.

My foster families have been so great, I owe them my life, but I am now ready to move on to a forever family. I have few requirements, the main one being the only sunshine in your life. I don’t like dogs and I can take a long while to warm up to other cats. I’m not saying I could never be friends with another cat, maybe I just haven’t met the right one yet. Other than that, I require love and hugs, scratches and treats.

If you can give me that, I will be your sunshine forever.

Foster of the Week: Doughnut

13512230_10157049360245640_3255920711285661939_n

Hi! I’m Doughnut!

And I am as loveable and satisfying as a real doughnut – a maple tuna dip. True story! I’m soft and fluffy with a deliciously, fishy sweet glaze. Mmmmmm…..

I grew up as an outdoor cat, but I have wholly and fully accepted my new life indoors. Only a fool would reject this good life! I am fed regularly, have a warm and safe place to sleep and an abundance of cuddles. It’s pretty much the best gig ever.

I’ve dubbed myself Zoe’s Resident Adventure Cat because I’ve been all over the place. In fact, I am at The Cat Cafe right now! I also hung out at Catfest and Core with Cats and have gone a to few adoption events. Such a blast!! Most cats don’t love so much change, but I do! My human accompaniments marvel at my harness and leash skills and my super laid back demeanour. But, as chill as I am, I do enjoy some play time! Don’t get me wrong! I love those crinkly cat tunnels! Omgosh, so much fun!! They are my favourite. I also love wand toys and laser pointers. As a former mouser before coming to Zoe’s, anything I can stalk and pounce on satisfies my playful predatory desires.

After a good adventure or play session, I am always down for snuggles and cuddles with my people. My foster parents and all the people I’ve met say I am the sweetest, most snuggly cat around. A Casanova with the kisses, too. Word on the street is my smooches are the best in town! I don’t discriminate with my love; I’ll snuggle with any human, big or small. I can be a little choosy with my animals friends though. I like most cats, just gimme a minute to warm up, and I ignore the ones I don’t like. I’m not a fan of kittens. Those crazy furballs harsh my mellow in the worst way. I am more picky with dogs. I’ve met some I don’t like at all and some I don’t mind. It’s a feeling, you know. Sometimes you jive and sometimes you don’t.

I have loved living in my foster homes, Zoe’s takes such great care of me, but I’m ready for a forever lap to snuggle. If you like doughnuts, we should meet! Check me out and apply to adopt me!

Foster of the Week: Stacey Brotzel

SB

Good day. Stacey Brotzel here with channel ZARS to bring you a breaking story…..

STACEY BROTZEL SEEKS FOREVER HOME – AGAIN

Our story begins in October of 2014 when a stunning grey and white girl made her debut into the world. Her life to follow would be full of ups and downs, highs and low and thrilling adventures….

1958164_671698839639542_9073875792607932716_n

One story in particular melded Stacey’s all time high and all time low. Several months ago, Stacey found herself in the home a wonderful family. Ready to settle down from a life of adventure, Stacey happily resigned herself to a life of laps and luxury only to have the catnip pulled right from under her nose. A series of unfortunate events brought poor Stacey back into the rescue from which she was once adopted, Zoe’s Animal Rescue Society.

With a collection of hearts that are never closed off to any animal, Zoe’s recommitted itself to find Stacey a forever home. One who would oblige her daily bathtub drinks and be happy to curl up with a cup of hot cocoa while she regales her tales of adventure and excitement.

A sweetheart of a cat, Stacey adores dogs and cats as much as she adores people. A forever home where she will have animal siblings would be ideal for this beauty. Stacey is a very well-balanced lady, the perfect mix of social sophistication and quiet independence. She has outgrown all those silly kitten behaviours and learned proper indoor manners, but still loves to play and let her inner kitten shine through. Her foster mom says she is amazing and perfect. “She takes time to warm up with everyone, but once she does, she is just perfect. Very playful and curious. Always looking for an adventure.”

We are asking the public for assistance with finding Stacey’s forever home, we are certain the perfect family is out there, waiting for her. If you have any information that could lead to a forever home for Stacey or if you think your home might be the perfect fit, we urge you to visit Stacey’s profile and apply to adopt her today.

Thank you for reading today. For Channel ZARS, I’m Stacey Brotzel.
